Together Whilst Apart Dressing Up Competition

Whilst the school is currently closed, due to Covid-19, the staff at St Ives are working hard to bring the St Ives experience into pupils’ homes, whether it is academic, extra-curricular or pastoral, to ensure the children (and their parents) feel as part of the St Ives community as ever.  They understand the importance of the children feeling the continuity of contact between their teachers and friends, so are introducing the concept of “Together Whilst Apart”.

“Together Whilst Apart” is forming a key role in all their planning – whether it is academic work, extra-curricular activities or pastoral care.   The school knows it is fundamental to keep the spirit of St Ives at the forefront of their children’s minds so they continue to feel involved and connected, ready for when they can be together again physically.

As part of the new remote learning curriculum, children are being set a weekly challenge, that is purely for fun and allows them to be creative, using just what they may have in their houses.  This week’s challenge was to dress up as a famous artist or painting.  The results have been astonishing!  The school has received so many diverse entries – from Elizabeth I to Rapahel’s Two Cherubs, to Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe to Manet’s Jeanne -   and has been thrilled with the response.

Kay Goldsworthy, Head Teacher at St Ives, said “We know it is fundamental to keep the spirit of St Ives at the forefront of our children’s minds so they continue to feel involved and connected to the school, ready for when we can be together again physically.  The fun we have all had taking part in this competition is obvious.  Everyone has been so creative and clever with their entries and they’ve made us roar with laughter.  We’ve been frantically posting the photos on our social media channels and the ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ have been huge.  It is an excellent example of the St Ives community being ‘Together Whilst Apart’.
