MacMillan Coffee Morning

The children at St Ives School in Haslemere enjoyed taking part in a MacMillan Coffee Morning this week.
MacMillan Coffee Mornings at St Ives are usually family affairs, where parents are invited in to join Head Teacher, Mrs Kay Goldsworthy, for a coffee and chat, with lots of money being raised for MacMillan Cancer. However, due to Covid restrictions, the Coffee Morning has had to be adapted for 2020. This year, the children were all asked to bake their own individual cupcakes and bring them in to school for a house cupcake competition. Once at school, the children displayed their cupcakes within their separate bubbles ready for Mrs Goldsworthy to judge them.
After the results were collated, the children enjoyed a Virtual Bake Off Quiz where Mrs Goldsworthy was the quiz master and appeared online in each of their classrooms. The questions were all baking related but were really funny! After the quiz, the children were allowed to go outside and enjoy their cupcakes, returning to class with the muckiest faces!
Mrs Goldsworthy said “We are thrilled to have adapted to a new way of running the MacMillan Coffee Morning so that the children haven’t missed out on any fun and we hope to have raised lots of money for this worthwhile cause. Usually we collate the money here, so we know our total, but this year – as with everything else – It has been done online, so we hope our families have donated generously.”
