Thank you FOSI (The Friends of St Ives)

A huge thank you to FOSI (The Friends of St Ives) for all the tools they bought for Forest School. Reception & Year 3 loved using the hammers and hand drills on fallen dead wood. Everyone had a great time learning new skills. Thank you FOSI!

Reception French

The joy of learning French when it involves practising numbers by learning a frog song and playing a lily-pad jumping game, followed by a story!

Year 4 Science

The atmosphere was electric as Year 4’s budding scientists enjoyed learning through discovery this week. There was great excitement as they worked out for themselves how to design a simple series circuit to light up a bulb. They then had to figure out how to make the bulb brighter and duller by adding more batteries or more bulbs!

Halloween in the Nursery

Our youngest pupils in Nursery are also getting into the Halloween spirit by painting pumpkins and playing on the Halloween inspired table. Some have even been trying to terrify Mrs Bowler with spiders!

Halloween!

It's day 2 of our Languages Festival and the Halloween party tonight, which means pupils have come to school in fancy dress. We're loving all their outfits and can’t believe how scary some of the children are looking (well, we’re telling them they look scary - they actually just look really cute to us!).

St Ives Pupils Shine in Virtual Green Love Performance

ST IVES SCHOOL PUPILS SHINE IN VIRTUAL GREEN LOVE! PERFORMANCE

~ Pupils celebrate virtual premiere of Green Love! with thousands of their peers in schools from across United Learning ~

~ Group-wide music and performing arts project designed to develop pupils’ musical skills and raise awareness about climate change ~

Last Friday, pupils at St Ives School in Haslemere joined together virtually with thousands of their peers from across United Learning to see themselves in the online premiere of Green Love! Songs to save the world.

Green Love! is an ambitious music and performing arts project designed to develop pupils’ musical talents and encourage them to think more about the environment and how, together, we can protect it. The project culminated in the professional production of a unique thirty-minute film, featuring performances recorded in the 40 schools involved.

Last academic year, pupils at St Ives School immersed themselves in the world of music and dance, enjoying in-school rehearsals and virtual, group-wide Green Love! assemblies delivered by The Voices Foundation and Beat Goes On. Collectively, they learnt six original songs inspired by sustainability and composed by celebrated musicians Alexander L’Estrange and Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, as well as accompanying body percussion rhythms. Having mastered the lyrics and foot-tapping rhythms, pupils recorded their final in-school performance in the Summer Term.

To celebrate their hard work, pupils enjoyed an early premiere of Green Love! on Friday afternoon. This was followed by a ticketed online showing in the evening, where pupils’ friends and families were able to watch the special performance, held in support of Ibba Girls’ School in South Sudan. The film is available to watch on YouTube here:   https://youtu.be/EGXiLXxEgSg

GB Athlete Visits St Ives

Pupils enjoyed a truly inspiring visit from GB athlete Frederick Afrifa from Sports for Schools today. Frederick is a 400m sprinter, regularly competing on the world stage. He shared his athletic journey with us, starting with his first coach who told him to “keep moving forwards”, a mantra he still uses today. We loved meeting you Frederick Afrifa and will be following your progress to Paris 2024.
