The pupils were tasked with organising the entire event, from planning the guest list to sending out invitations, creating a menu and shopping for the ingredients, preparing and cooking the food, laying the tables and most importantly of all, welcoming and looking after their guests. They were also given a budget to pay for the event, which they needed to stick to and learn from.
Kay Goldsworthy, Head Teacher of St Ives School, said “This was a fantastic learning opportunity for the children and one in which they excelled. The school dining room looked fantastic, the food was delicious and all the guests seemed to have a lovely time. I was thrilled to see how well the children had coped with the task in hand and how polite, yet confident, they were with our guests. The skills they have learnt from this task will stand them in excellent stead for their senior schools and beyond.”
