St Ives School Swam Its Way to Victory at the IAPS National Swimming Finals

The relay team, which had qualified for the small schools’ relay final, arrived at the event as the tenth seed in a race of ten.  However, the gutsy St Ives girls swam the race of their lives, beating their previous best time by a whole sixteen seconds and coming fourth in the whole country!  The relay team is made up of Emma, Emily, Ella, Annabel, Poppy, Livvy, Grace and Tamara.

In addition to this, St Ives’ Swimming Captains, Emily and Emma, were also competing in individual races.  Emily competed in the U11 50m backstroke, giving it her all, gaining a personal best and finishing in the top fifteen in the country.

Emma swam her U11 25m butterfly with such determination, ending up seventh in the whole country, with another incredible personal best.

Kay Goldsworthy, Head Teacher at St Ives, said “I am so proud of the whole team.  To have come fourth in the whole country is an tremendous result and shows how determined this team is in competitive circumstances.  Equally, Emily and Emma’s individual performances were outstanding.”
