Surrey Fire & Rescue Service Visit Reception Class

What an exciting morning for our Reception children with a visit from the Surrey Fire & Rescue Service as part of their topic ‘People Who Help Us’. The children learnt about the different roles firefighters play within our community & then were lucky enough to explore the fire engine, see the blue flashing lights & hear the siren, but the biggest excitement was when they were allowed to use the huge fire hose! They all delighted in squirting traffic cones down the St Ives driveway & soaking everything in its path! Thank you so much @surreyfrs for bringing the children’s learning to life!

Inter-house Cross Country Competition

Clearly inspired by this year’s London Marathon, pupils ran so hard to battle it out in the Inter-House Cross Country this afternoon. Our cross country course is renowned locally for its killer hill, but even the hill didn’t stop pupils from giving it their all in the fight for the coveted trophy. Well done Blue House for being triumphant! Bronze, silver & gold medals were awarded to children in each year group, as well as a certificate for effort. Wonderful camaraderie & team spirit throughout!

Nursery Children

Last week Nursery children worked on self-portraits & created some wonderful paintings. They also learnt about the different parts of their bodies through songs & games such as ‘I’ve got a body’ & ‘Head, shoulders knees & toes’. In the garden, they have been finding out what their bodies can do through challenges such as 'How far can you throw? How high can you jump? & ‘How fast can you run?’ In Forest School the children used hoops to explore the forest floor. They looked very closely at the different natural items inside the hoops, sorted them into groups & counted them.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who supported our Macmillan Coffee Morning yesterday. It was lovely to see so many of you. A very big thank you to Mrs Parker & our wonderful Year 6 children for decorating the hall, welcoming & serving our visitors & for being the perfect hosts! We look forward to sharing how much money was raised for this incredibly worthwhile cause.

Dad's Breakfast

Thanks so much to all the Dads who joined us for breakfast this morning. The children loved sitting down in the dining room and eating croissants and bacon rolls with you and then showing you around their classrooms and introducing you to all their teachers. We’ve already had several requests to make it a weekly thing…… and that’s just from the Dads!

Year 3 Art

ear 3 have been learning about Ancient Art & have produced some fantastic dotty animal paintings. They loved learning about the colours & symbols Aboriginal people used, especially about concentric circles representing campsites or rock holes!

Year 1 Forest School

Year 1 has been exploring variety in the forest this week. The children had a competition to find the biggest leaf and longest stick & had fun putting them in order.

Year 5 Investigate the Absorbency of Materials

In Science, Year 5 were tasked with designing a fair test to investigate which material was the most absorbent. The children had to select their own equipment & identify their control variables. We had a variety of different test designs & they had great fun working together & collecting data. We then compared our results & found felt to be most absorbent!

Archery Club

Last week also marked the start of Archery Club for our prep school children, which was really popular. It was harder than it looked, so the children had to concentrate & persevere to hit the targets! We’ll love watching them improve as the term goes on.

Year 4 Trip to Chichester

Year 4 enjoyed their first school trip of the academic year last week in Chichester. The children started the day by the coast, looking for evidence of a Roman tile making site which once provided tiles to Fishbourne Roman Palace. They found many real Roman tile treasures. After enjoying lunch in the beautiful Bishop's Palace Gardens, they discovered the remains of Roman Chichester, such as its gates & walls. The class then went to the Novium Museum for a hands-on Roman workshop. Here, they were shown the excavations of Chichester's Roman Baths, learnt about what a visit to them in Roman times would have been like, & were able to see & handle many Roman artefacts. They enjoyed dressing as Roman warriors. Their eyes were opened as to just how heavy and bulky the armour would have been to wear whilst fighting!
